Secluded Luxury Home with Expansive Ocean Views in Ojochal
The home is located in the ‘Cinco Ventanas’ development, above the town of Ojochal. This house sits above the Costanera highway and nearby villages, surrounded by jungle on three sides, offering a sense of seclusion. All modern conveniences are just a 10-minute drive away. The nearby Costanera, the only Pacific-coast highway, offers a range of services and amenities.
The home sits about 230 meters above the ocean, providing cooler temperatures, comfortable humidity, and regular mountain and sea breezes.
Access is through a road that begins at the Costanera highway and climbs through the
Cinco Ventanas community. The home is at the end of the road, where the jungles take over. A gate and driveway lead to the parking area and a 2-car garage. The gate, garage, and house all have similar architectural elements and finishes, showcasing the attention to detail that characterizes this property.
The 2-level home is designed to make the most of the surroundings and tropical lifestyle. Every room in the home is air-conditioned and features wall-to-ceiling windows along with large patio doors that blur the boundary between outside and inside. A large roof extends over the home, offering covered patio areas that are shielded from rain, both upstairs and downstairs. This roof features lighting and ceiling fans, and the top includes a solar water heater and a Starlink antenna.
Downstairs, the infinity salt-water pool is prominent – situated directly in front of the house, it runs the full length of the patio. The pool views include hills, rainforests, and the Pacific Ocean, with coastal mountains framing the scenery. The integrated outdoor BBQ station features a sink and ample counter and storage space. Protected by the overhanging roof, it is likely to stand out on its own.
The bottom floor of the home is for the shared kitchen, dining, and living area, which occupies most of the space. The walls of this space are glazed and can be moved aside to connect the ground floor with the outside patio. Whether cooking, eating, or relaxing, you can enjoy the mountain breezes and views. The finish and design are evident throughout the home, particularly in this area. The colors, wood accents, furniture, and overall fitout create a striking impression. From the light fixtures and wall-mounted wine racks to the dining table, potted plants, stair accents, coffee table, and lounges, there is plenty to catch your eye. The kitchen has all the necessary counter, storage, and dining space, while the floating lounges can be arranged in various configurations as needed.
The bottom floor has a bedroom that is separate from the main area and features its own entrance. This wired space can also serve as a home office.
Upstairs, three bedrooms line a verandah and a spacious patio area. Each bedroom has large windows that capture the views. Entire walls can be moved aside to connect the bedrooms with the outside patio. The lumber beds are impressive, and the ensuites stand out with their brightness, lumber finish, and blue tiling. Did you know the master bedroom ensuite opens fully to the outside? The patio doors slide away, making it feel like your bath or shower is in the tree-tops of the surrounding jungles.
A large plantel above the house serves as a yoga deck. Picture starting your day with a yoga session, surrounded by ocean and rainforest views, with the sounds of jungle critters and the distant Pacific surf. Surrounded by acres of rainforests and greenery, I can think of no better place. This plantel can also be developed into another house, cabins, guest accommodation, or a jacuzzi. Garden or orchard? A gazebo for relaxing afternoons and evening wildlife sounds?
Below the home, a canvas of lawns and landscaping invites for a round of golf practice– yes, you’ve read that right! Stay sharp by chipping and putting in this 1-hole golf practice area, but watch out for the sand trap!
The views are impressive, and the Pacific Ocean sunsets will be memorable. The
Whale’s Tail sand and rock formation, a highlight of Marino Ballena National Park, is always changing due to the tides. To the left, you see Isla Ballena and nearby shoals – these outcroppings are ideal for snorkeling, SCUBA, and watching the migrating Humpback Whales. Last year, a Humpback mother, father, and calf gathered among these rocks, much to the delight of local whale-watchers. The ocean suddenly vanishes behind a wall of tropical rainforest and the coastal mountains that rise steeply to 1,300 meters asl. The mountains are covered in jungles and cloud forests. In the dry season, their tropical slopes contrast with the white clouds that often linger along their peaks. During the green season, many waterfalls drop from their steep slopes as mists fill the valleys. Some people compare these mountains to the landscapes of Maui or Oahu, and we agree.
The homes rainforest immersion, on 3 sides, will attract various jungle wildlife to the property – monkeys, scarlet macaws, several species of toucans, sloths, anteaters, poison dart frogs, tree frogs, giant moths, coatis, blue morpho butterflies, and other creatures will be your new tropical neighbors. Maybe you will see the elusive jaguarundi, or perhaps a wandering tapir or jaguar. The lot is adjacent to a large area of mountain jungles, so expect visits from curious creatures – your new neighbors.
Plaza Ventanas is just 10 minutes downhill and offers various conveniences, including a gas station, small grocer, shops, restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlors, dental and medical offices, lawyers, and real estate professionals. It also features giant dinosaur statues and a mini waterpark. A 5-minute drive from here leads to Ojochal, a village with supermarkets, barbers, pickleball, restaurants, cafes, a carwash, and other conveniences. If you turn in the opposite direction, Uvita is under 15 minutes away – this service town is home to Marino Ballena National Park and the Envision music & lifestyle festival. You might want to check out Playa Tortuga or Playa Ventanas. These beaches are a short 5-minute drive from Plaza Ventanas and attract migrating Humpback Whales twice a year, which can be seen and heard just offshore.
